Rules Every First-Time Couple Should Set

Your first lifestyle experience should feel thrilling, not anxious — and the difference is almost entirely about the rules you set beforehand. Here are the ones that matter most.

1. Define your swap level

Be specific: social only, soft swap, or full swap? 'Soft swap' means different things to different people, so spell it out — kissing yes, oral yes, intercourse no, whatever your line is.

2. Same room or separate

Most new couples stay same-room so they can see each other and stay connected. Separate-room play is usually for couples with more trust built. Pick yours before the night, not in the moment.

3. The check-in signal

A look, a word, a hand squeeze — something either of you can use to say 'pause' or 'we're done' instantly, no questions asked. This is your safety net.

4. Who you'll play with

New couples? Verified profiles only? No single men, or maybe one vetted single woman? Talk about it so you're not deciding under pressure.

5. Kissing: yes or no

For a lot of couples, kissing feels more intimate than sex. Decide your rule — some couples save kissing for each other.

6. Protection

Condoms for intercourse, always, with new partners. Agree on it as a hard rule so neither of you has to negotiate it mid-moment.

7. How much to share after

Some couples want every detail; some prefer to keep certain things private. Agree on your debrief style so no one gets blindsided.

8. We can stop at any time

Say it out loud, to each other, before you go: either of us can end the night at any moment, no explanation, no guilt. That freedom is what makes everything else feel safe.

Write these down. The couples who prep like this are the ones who walk out smiling — and come back. A small gift for your partner before the night is a nice touch, too.
