Signs Your Partner Might Be Curious About the Lifestyle
So you're curious about the lifestyle, and you're trying to read whether your partner might be, too. Here's how to listen for the signals — and how not to jump to conclusions.
The conversation signals
- They bring up non-monogamy unprompted — a podcast, a friend's 'open relationship,' a news story. If it keeps coming up, there's a reason.
- They joke about a threesome or 'sharing' you — sometimes a joke is a probe to see how you react.
- They ask about your fantasies more than usual and genuinely want details.
- They mention a lifestyle resort or cruise as a 'joke' vacation idea.
The behavior signals
- Pineapple everything. A sudden love of pineapple decor, apparel, or accessories can be more than a trend.
- They suggest dressing sexier or trying new things in the bedroom that lean adventurous.
- They follow lifestyle-adjacent accounts or save content about open relationships.
What these signs are NOT
None of these are proof. A pineapple shirt can just be a pineapple shirt. A threesome joke can just be a joke. Reading signals is about gathering courage for a conversation — not about cornering someone.
How to explore it together
Don't ambush. Start a low-pressure conversation: 'I've been curious about something and I wanted to see how you feel about it.' Share your own interest first — vulnerability invites vulnerability. Ask, don't assume.
The golden rule
If they're not interested, that's the answer. The lifestyle only works with two enthusiastic yeses. Pushing a reluctant partner is the fastest way to damage a relationship.
If they ARE interested
Slow way down. Now the real work begins: boundaries, rules, and a pace that works for both of you. Start with our beginner guides, take it one conversation at a time, and bring a pineapple when you're ready to step out.
