Soft Swap vs. Full Swap
Two terms you'll hear constantly in the lifestyle are "soft swap" and "full swap." They describe the two most common levels of play, and understanding the difference is one of the first steps to setting your own boundaries.
Soft swap generally means everything but intercourse. Couples may kiss, touch, and engage in oral play with others, but full intercourse is reserved for their own partner. For many newer couples, soft swap is a comfortable entry point — it offers the thrill of shared exploration with a clear line that feels safe.
Full swap means going further — including intercourse with another partner. This is often, though not always, same-room, so both partners can see each other and stay connected. Full swap couples usually arrive at this level only after lots of conversation and after building trust in the lifestyle over time.
Neither is better or more "real." The lifestyle isn't a ladder to climb. Plenty of happy, experienced couples stay soft swap forever because that's genuinely what they enjoy. What matters is that you and your partner agree, and that you're honest with any couple you play with about where your line is.
A few practical tips: agree on your definition before an event, not in the heat of the moment — "soft swap" means slightly different things to different people, so get specific. Use a check-in signal during play so either of you can slow things down. And debrief afterward: did your boundary feel right, or do you want to adjust it next time?
Whatever level you choose, communicate it clearly and own it with confidence. A couple that knows what it wants — and says so — is exactly the kind of couple other lifestyle members love to meet.
