Discretion & Privacy in the Lifestyle
Discretion is one of the core values of the lifestyle — and for good reason. Many couples keep their lifestyle involvement private from family, friends, coworkers, and neighbors, and the community treats that privacy as sacred. Here's how experienced couples protect it.
Start with your digital footprint. Use a separate email and phone number for lifestyle platforms, apps, and event RSVPs. Many couples keep a dedicated lifestyle phone or a second number through an app. This keeps lifestyle messages off your shared devices and out of your work life.
Be careful with photos. Never photograph or film anyone at a club, party, or resort without explicit permission — most venues ban phones entirely in play and pool areas. When you do take photos of your own night out, keep faces of others out of frame, and never post anyone else on social media without their consent.
Mind your social media. Don't tag the club, the resort, or other couples in public posts. A photo of you "at a great party" can out someone who isn't out. When in doubt, post nothing, or post only a drink, a sunset, or a pineapple emoji.
Be thoughtful in public. The upside-down pineapple and similar symbols exist precisely so you can signal within the community without saying a word to the vanilla world. A pineapple on a flask or tumbler reads as decor to outsiders and as a signal to those who know. That duality is the whole point.
Protect each other at work. Don't discuss the lifestyle with coworkers, and be cautious about who you connect with on professional networks. If you meet a fellow lifestyle couple at work, the norm is mutual, silent discretion — you both simply never mention it.
Finally, treat privacy as a two-way promise. When another couple trusts you with their identity, guard it the way you'd want yours guarded. Discretion isn't secrecy out of shame — it's respect. The community runs on it, and the couples who honor it are the ones everyone wants to know.
