Drinks, Drugs & Staying in Control at Lifestyle Parties
Alcohol and lifestyle events go together, and that's fine — but the line between 'loosened up' and 'out of control' matters more here than anywhere. Here's the real etiquette.
The honest rule
Stay present. The lifestyle requires real-time consent, real-time communication, and real-time reading of your partner and your play partners. Anything that blunts any of those — too much alcohol, recreational drugs — makes you a worse play partner and a riskier one.
Why drunk play is bad play
- Consent gets fuzzy. You can't give or read enthusiastic consent when you're impaired, and neither can they.
- Boundaries slip. The line you agreed on at 9 p.m. is the line you 'forget' at 1 a.m.
- Performance and hygiene suffer. Enough said.
- You become someone else's problem. Hosts and partners have to manage you instead of enjoying the night.
The practical limits most couples set
- One or two drinks, then switch to water. A buzz is fine; drunk is not.
- Eat before you go. Food is the most underrated party accessory.
- Watch your partner's intake too. You're a team; look out for each other.
- Never play after you've crossed your line. The play room will be there next time.
On other substances
Recreational drugs are banned at most reputable clubs and events, and for good reason — they blur consent and safety. Beyond the rules, mixing substances with play is genuinely riskier. Most experienced couples treat a clear head as a non-negotiable.
The one drink that matters
Bring your own engraved flask or tumbler so your cup is never in question — and so you always know exactly what's in it. Never leave a drink unattended; if you do, get a new one.
The lifestyle rewards presence over performance. The couple who's a little buzzy, fully in control, and clearly having a great time is the couple everyone wants to play with. Be that couple.
