Single Women in the Lifestyle (Unicorns)
In lifestyle slang, a single woman joining a couple is a 'unicorn' — and the name tells you everything about how rare and celebrated you are. With that attention comes the chance to set your own terms. Here's how to do it well.
You're in demand — own it
You'll be approached a lot. That's flattering and, occasionally, exhausting. Remember: you're a guest, not a prop. A couple should want to meet you, not just collect a third. Hold out for the ones who treat you as a full person.
Vet the couple
- Both partners should engage. If only one half is messaging and the other is invisible or 'busy,' that's a red flag — they may not actually be on the same page.
- Video chat before meeting. Confirm they're real, both into it, and that the chemistry clicks.
- Ask about their boundaries. A couple that can't articulate theirs isn't safe to play with.
- Meet in public first. A drink lets you read the room before anything goes further.
Set your terms
- What do you want? A one-time play, a recurring thing, friendship? Say it.
- Same-room or separate? Your call.
- Protection and testing. Non-negotiable; a couple that pushes back isn't safe.
- Aftercare. A lot of couples will check in the next day — that's a good sign. Decide how much contact you want.
The emotional weather
Being the third can stir feelings. You might feel included, or you might feel like the garnish. Check in with yourself afterward. If a couple makes you feel like an accessory, you're allowed to move on. The right couple makes you feel like the main character for the night.
Safety basics
- Share your location with a trusted friend.
- Drive yourself or have your own way home.
- Trust your gut — you can leave any time.
The lifestyle can be an incredible playground for single women who set boundaries and vet well. Be picky, be clear, and enjoy being exactly as rare as you are.
