What Does 'Vanilla' Mean?
Vanilla is the lifestyle's word for anything — or anyone — outside the lifestyle. A vanilla bar is a regular bar. A vanilla friend isn't in the lifestyle. A vanilla night is a night with no lifestyle activity. It's the most common shorthand in the community.
Where you'll hear it
- 'That couple is vanilla' (not in the lifestyle).
- 'Keep it vanilla in the lobby' (behave like you're not in the lifestyle while in public spaces).
- 'We had a vanilla weekend' (no lifestyle activity).
Use it kindly
'Vanilla' isn't an insult — it's just a category. The lifestyle wouldn't work without the vanilla world staying vanilla; the whole point of discretion is that the two worlds don't bleed into each other. Using 'vanilla' with respect keeps that boundary clean.
Why the word exists
The lifestyle needs a quick way to distinguish contexts — a signal you're in a lifestyle space vs. a vanilla one. That distinction is exactly why discreet symbols like the upside-down pineapple exist: visible in the lifestyle world, invisible in the vanilla one.
Vanilla is the backdrop the lifestyle is painted on. It's not lesser — it's just the other 99% of life.
