Getting Started

Your First Lifestyle House Party

A lifestyle house party is more intimate than a club — a smaller group, a real home, a curated vibe. It's wonderful, and it has its own etiquette. Here's how to do your first one right.

Before you arrive

  • Read the invite carefully. Theme, start time, what to bring, house rules — the host spelled them out for a reason.
  • Bring the essentials. A bottle to share, your own engraved cup, and anything the host asked for.
  • Dress for the theme. House parties lean into themes harder than clubs do. Participate.
  • Confirm childcare and timing. Don't be the couple who shows up two hours late.

When you walk in

Greet the hosts first, introduce yourselves to the room, and take the lay of the land — where's the bar, the coat spot, the play room (and which doors are off-limits). A good host gives a quick tour; if not, ask.

The social flow

House parties build slowly. The first hour is drinks and conversation; energy rises through the evening. Mingle, be warm, and let things unfold. Don't rush toward the play room — the best nights are the ones nobody forced.

Play room etiquette

  • Always ask before entering a space or joining a group.
  • Respect closed doors. A closed door usually means a private scene.
  • Never bring your phone into a play area.
  • Leave it as you found it. Sheets, towels, trash.

Be the guest they re-invite

  • Tip your cup, not your sobriety. A little buzzed is fine; drunk is not.
  • Thank the hosts — sincerely, and again the next day.
  • Offer to help. Clearing a few glasses goes a long way.
  • Keep what happened there, there. Discretion is the host's law.

A house party is the lifestyle at its warmest. Be a gracious guest, and you'll find yourself on the invite list again and again.
